Rishiri Explorer

Set on one of Japan’s most remote and visually striking islands, the Rishiri Explorer is a true backcountry journey into the edge of Hokkaido. Over 7 days, we explore the mountain from multiple aspects, each offering a different character; steep chutes, open bowls, and long volcanic slopes that fall away toward the ocean. By combining ski touring with snowmobile-assisted access, we’re able to move efficiently across the island and focus on what matters most: finding great snow and skiing exceptional terrain.

Designed for advanced skiers with strong fitness, this trip offers a step up in both scale and experience without losing the flow and enjoyment of the skiing. Built-in flexibility allows us to work with Rishiri’s ever-changing weather, ensuring we make the most of each window. For those seeking something beyond the typical Hokkaido experience, Rishiri offers a truly memorable adventure.

Tour Grading

This trip is best suited to strong, fit skiers with solid backcountry experience. Expect days involving 1,000m+ of climbing, with the potential for a 1,500m summit push. You should be confident skiing a range of snow conditions and have at least 20 days of touring experience.

Details: 7 days 6 nights, full backcountry tour, snowmobile access to reduce long access roads to the foothills of the alpine.
Includes: Experienced and qualified ski guide throughout; 6 nights accommodation; 4-5 Guided riding days; 1-2 weather days; All Dinners, All Breakfasts; All Lift tickets; private minibus from day 1 to day 7; fully guided.
Not included: All items of a personal nature; ski gear (10% discount hire available for this tour); travel insurance (compulsory); lunches; dinners except where indicated; alcohol.
Guide Ratio: This tour is operated with two guides regardless of group size, reflecting the more advanced nature of the terrain on Rishiri Island. Group size is kept small, with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 guests.
