The Central Hokkaido Explorer tour takes the classic approach of storm chasing in Hokkaido. This tour bases your group in premium accommodation in Furano, the aptly named “bellybutton of Hokkaido”, known for its cosy town atmosphere, world class dining and close proximity to the majority of premium central Hokkaido skiing and touring locations. Throughout this tour you will experience the best that central Hokkaido has to offer, with our team of expert guides picking the deepest snow conditions for your group to ride each day. This tour is perfect for those that wish to experience the many diverse skiing and backcountry touring locations that the region offers.
While this trip may use resorts and lifts to access some great skiing, it is primarily backcountry focused, and as such clients should be prepared to travel uphill for extended periods on either touring skis or splitboards. Tour Grading
No you don’t have to be a Skimo athlete to jump in on this tour, nor do we expect you to arrive with a rope and harness in tow. To join one of our Central Hokkaido Explorer tours you should be an advanced to expert downhill rider, meaning comfortable riding everything in and around your local ski resort. You should have some experience in the backcountry, ideally 10+ days of ski touring on routes that gain more than 800 metres of vertical per day.
